Mangonada 101: Harvest the Juicy Deets
Embark on a flavor-packed journey with the mangonada, a Mexican delight that tantalizes taste buds with its intricate blend of sweet, spicy and tangy flavors.
What's in a mangonada?
A mangonada typically blends sweet mango puree or syrup with chamoy—a spicy Mexican condiment—topped with Tajín, a chili lime seasoning, and often enhanced with citrus flavors like lime juice.
How does it differ from a chamoyada?
While mangonadas spotlight mango as the primary fruit, chamoyadas can feature various fruits beyond mango. The defining feature of a chamoyada is the prominent use of chamoy.
Why the name "mangonada"?
"Mangonada" likely stems from the fusion of "mango" and the Spanish suffix "-ada," indicating a drink made from mango—a nod to its key ingredient.
What sets mangonadas apart from diablitos?
Unlike mangonadas, diablitos boast an extra kick—alcohol. While sharing similar components like sweet mango, chamoy and Tajín, diablitos also include spirits like tequila.
