Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Spice Tribe Mr. Wesley Jones BBQ Spice Blend
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 6 brioche buns
  • 1 (7.6 oz) jar Divina Caramelized Onion Jam
  • 6 green lettuce leaves
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 1 (20 oz) bottle Lillie’s Carolina Barbeque Sauce
  • 1 (3.5 oz) bag crispy onions
  • 12 slices cooked bacon
  • 6 McClure's Dill Pickle Spears, for serving

Directions

Step 1

Combine ground beef and BBQ Spice Blend in a large bowl. Mix well. Divide into 6 equal pieces and form round, flat patties. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Step 2

Preheat grill to medium/high heat.

Step 3

Once hot, place patties onto grill. Grill for 4–5 minutes. Use a grill press for noticeable grill marks. Flip patties and grill for another 3–4 minutes, until almost cooked through. Place a cheese slice on top of each patty and cover with a cheese melting dome. Internal temperature should reach 160°F before removing from grill. Transfer to a plate.

Step 4

Place buns on grill to toast for 30–60 seconds. Transfer to plate.

Step 5

To assemble each burger: Spread about 1–2 tablespoons of onion jam on each bun. Place lettuce and tomatoes, top with patty, 1 tablespoon of BBQ sauce, 2 tablespoons of crispy onions and 2 slices of bacon. Place top bun and secure with a toothpick.

Tips for Your Best BBQ Bacon Burger

Q: Do you put raw or cooked bacon in burgers?

A: Raw bacon should be cooked before adding it to burgers. Cook the bacon until crispy, then crumble or chop it to mix into the burger patties or use it as a topping.

Q: Does bacon go on top or on the bottom of the burger?

A: Bacon can be placed on top of the burger patty. It adds a delicious crispy texture and smoky flavor to the burger. However, you can also mix cooked bacon into the patty for a bacon-infused burger.

Q: Do you cook burgers with the lid open or closed?

A: When grilling burgers, it's generally recommended to cook them with the lid closed. This helps retain heat, ensures even cooking and helps melt any cheese that you're using.

Q: What bacon is best on a burger?

A: Choose bacon slices that are thick cut for a heartier texture and more substantial flavor. Hickory-smoked or maple-flavored bacon can add an extra layer of smokiness or sweetness to your burger. Experiment with different types to find your favorite.
