After the holidays, we try to get back on track by eating a more balanced diet. However, it’s not always so easy. That’s why I decided to come up with a recipe that’s both indulgent and healthy. This Turmeric Mac & Cheese has tons of nutritional value (thanks to the turmeric) and tastes great thanks to the pasta and cheese!
Turmeric has so many health benefits while maintaining a neutral taste profile; when you add it to recipes it mainly takes on the flavors of other ingredients, but it still retains its nutritional value. Turmeric is believed to balance blood sugar, help stiff joints, optimize cholesterol, and so much more. When mixing it with more flavorful ingredients such as cheese and Dijon mustard, it instantly takes on those flavor profiles, allowing you to forget it’s even there. It’s perfect for a dish such as mac & cheese, which is normally orange, as the turmeric naturally enlivens and colors the dish.
I chose to make this recipe with World Market Lumaconi & Strozzapreti pasta as both are some of our favorite types. The two types of pasta mixed together provides tons of texture to the dish and makes it extra beautiful. Taking only 15 minutes to make, this pasta could not be easier to cook. The al dente texture of the pastas mixed with the cheese and turmeric allows for a super-flavorful dish that just happens to be packed with nutrients. Talk about the best of both worlds! This is a great way to ease into healthier eating without sacrificing any of the flavors you know and love.
Tip: When you stop by World Market to grab the pasta and turmeric, make sure to check out their serveware and bowls, too! We picked up this gorgeous white bowl as well as these pretty utensils—all for under $15!
