It’s finally here! The moment we’ve all been waiting for — a chill in the air, the leaves starting to change…maybe even the opportunity to light a fire and get cozy under a warm blanket. Oh autumn, how we’ve been waiting for you to arrive! I think most would agree that fall is an especially enjoyable time of year. No one’s quite ready to get into the full holiday bustle, but finally (hopefully) we’ve made it past that last heave wave. Let’s celebrate and toast the season this weekend with a warm, fragrant hot toddy cocktail.

Sometimes thought as a ski lodge cocktail, or a warm remedy to ward off winter illness, a hot toddy is also an amazing drink to enjoy in good health and without snow. Traditionally, this cocktail features a combination of warm water, honey and whiskey but we’re going to mix things up and infuse some autumn spice into the mix by swapping out the spirit with a warm rum splash.

French press offers a quick and easy way to infuse flavors into any drink. By using this tool to steep tea and spices, we’ll create a unique spin on the classic in a snap. Muddled fresh ginger, cloves and black tea make for the perfect accompaniment to a cup filled with lemon, honey and rum.

You could use a white or spiced rum for this drink depending on how much of a stronger spiced caramel flavor you’d like to enjoy. But I think this drink is also incredibly satisfying without rum at all! The apple rose black tea, cloves and ginger make for a soothing and relaxing sip that you could enjoy any time. So break out those sweaters and get the kettle piping hot — it’s time to toast with a hot toddy and welcome autumn in!
