Deck the halls with…gingerbread! Okay, maybe that’s not how the traditional song goes, but this year we’re singing the praises of all things sugar and spice. Gingerbread confections and decor are Christmas classics, making kitchens around the world smell like absolute heaven. While we love building an icing-covered cottage or two, this year we’re thinking outside the cookie cutter for some fun and incredibly easy Christmas gingerbread decor.

Spice it Up with Gingerbread Decor

Baking cookies for the holidays is the perfect activity to bring friends and loved ones together. It’s also the perfect gift to give…I don’t think I know a single soul who would turn away a cookie, let alone a wreath adorned with several cookies!

We’ve all seen gingerbread strung on a tree, but how about we take it one (or two) steps further? Let’s try adorning fireplaces with gingerbread garlands, and embellishing front doors with a message spelling out holiday cookie cheer.

Before using our recipe below to bake these decorations, we suggest picking up a few faux garlands and wreaths at World Market to use as your base. They last longer and the wire branches lend a helpful hand in securing your sweet treats. Simply cut out a holiday message of your choice in your gingerbread dough, bake and add as many icing details as you’d like.

To hang, tie a festive ribbon around each cookie, making a loop, or fit in between branches for a more seamless look. Either way, you’ve created a one of a kind (edible!) decor piece that adds a little extra whimsy and warmth to your home.
