Setting the Christmas table might be one of my favorite ways to decorate this time of year. Depending on the hosting duties or this year’s chosen decor theme, we all have the opportunity to change things up and get really creative in new exciting ways.
This year, I’m all about the centerpiece playing, well, center stage, and nothing makes a statement like an arrangement based off of a 3-D gingerbread scene, all laced in icing and adorned with evergreen.
Inspired by gorgeous and intricate Eastern European advent cookies referred to in Czech as “Adventní svícen perníková dekorace,” which literally translates to “Advent candlelight gingerbread decoration,” this centerpiece is the perfect holiday crafting activity for any skill level or age.
Simply bake different holiday-inspired gingerbread cookie shapes—think pine trees and snowflakes—even a llama can add a whimsical touch! Then, glue them into place on top of a large gingerbread cookie base. Delicate icing details, maybe even a light sprinkle of powdered sugar “snow,” not to mention embedded tea lights for a little festive flicker, will have your creation be the talk of the table!
Just as sweet as it is stunning, this cookie centerpiece idea is made to inspire. Whether you want to make a statement that’s opulent or kitsch, dramatic or dainty, there’s no wrong or right way to assemble your masterpiece, especially when you’ve got this sturdy icing glue recipe under your belt.
Here’s to setting the table with new playful ideas this holiday. We can’t wait to see what you bake up!
