Christmas morning is right around the corner and as we prep to shop and wrap gifts, we also need to plan the menu. I love cooking a big breakfast on Christmas morning; we almost always have family from out of town staying with us, and I’m typically cooking for a crowd. I like to make a breakfast casserole as the main star and a few easy side dishes to compliment it. However, I also don’t want to be stuck in my kitchen for hours cooking while my guest are enjoying the day without me.
That’s where my Caramel Apple French Toast Casserole comes into play. It takes 15 minutes to put together and then almost an hour to bake. And if you have a family member or two that really wants to help you, you can have one person slice bread while the other peels and slices an apple—all while you’re cracking eggs and mixing in the milk and bread pudding mix! You can even line a baking sheet with bacon and bake it while the French toast casserole bakes. Yep, you can totally bake bacon, and it comes out crisp and perfect every time! To make the morning a little easier you can prep a fruit salad the night before.
Another great side dish to add to Christmas morning breakfast is to create an easy yogurt parfait bar where you have 1-2 yogurt flavors, fresh fruits and granola. Your guests can help themselves and create their own custom yogurt parfait! Whether you decide to just serve this casserole by itself or with a few side dishes, the option is entirely yours. Below, I’ll show you how to make the French toast casserole in just a few easy steps!
To start, gather all your ingredients and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
While the oven preheats, begin to slice the French bread into 1-inch thick slices. Once cut, set the bread to the side.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs until scrambled.
Then, add in the whole milk and Sof’ella Apple Bread Pudding Mix into the bowl. Mix well.
Submerge the slices of bread into the egg/milk mixture.
Spray the Island Essentials Coconut Oil Non-Stick Cooking Spray in a rectangular baking dish. Arrange the slices of soaked bread in the dish. Peel and slice the apple into thin wedges. Submerge the apple slices in the egg/milk mixture and place in between each slice of bread. Pour the remaining egg/milk mixture on top of the bread. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes, uncovered.
Remove from the oven after the egg mixture has set and the bread is golden brown. Slice and evenly divide among plates. Top with Torani Caramel Sauce & Torani Salted Chocolate Caramel Sauce, and enjoy immediately with family and friends.
