Last-Minute DIY Gift: Holiday Wine Bottle

Here’s a familiar scenario: you’re nearly ready to head to a friend’s holiday party and there’s no time for extra stops at the store. You’ve remembered to pick up a nice bottle of wine to bring as a hostess gift (cheers to that!), but you have absolutely nothing to present it in (and that balloon birthday wrapping paper is a no-go).

What do you do?

Luckily, we’ve got an ultra-cute DIY gift solution for this last-minute dilemma!

Gnome Wine Bottle Topper DIY Gift

If you’re like us, you usually have a few basic crafty supplies around the house, and this cute-as-a-button gnome wine bottle topper can be whipped up lickety-split using a few common crafting items. Follow the four easy steps below to create your gift.

What you’ll need:

  • Bottle of wine
  • Felt
  • Hot glue gun (or straight pins if you’re in a rush)
  • Scissors
  • Pom poms
  • Furniture buttons (or ball head pins) for the nose
  • Faux fur (or white fabric) for the beard

Step 1

Roll the felt into a cone and glue it together. Press and hold till the glue dries.

Pro tip: If you’re in a major rush, you can always use straight pins instead of glue — just be sure pointy ends are tucked securely into the fabric, and it’s kept away from small kiddos when completed. Also, if you’ve got a full schedule of holiday parties this year, you might like to make a few of these in advance in anticipation of those mad dashes throughout the season.

Step 2

Cut off the point of cone at the opening. Glue the inside of the cone and press on the beard, holding until it cools.

Step 3

Put a dot of glue above the beard onto the felt, this is for the nose. Press on the furniture button and hold it till glue dries.

Step 4

Now it’s time for the finishing touch! Add a dot of glue to the point of the hat and add a pom pom.

Done! Your DIY gift for the hostess is ready to go, and guaranteed to bring a jolly touch to the scene.
