The holidays can be a merry time filled with laughter and fun, but they can also be stressful. With all the preparation, entertaining, shopping and cooking for holiday celebrations, it can be easy to lose sight of what really matters most. Our family and friends are the light of our lives, so this year we decided to slow things down a bit and to focus on them with a Winter Solstice party.
I know what you may be thinking. Why would I plan another party when things are already crazy? This beautiful candle-lit Winter Solstice dinner is a fun and easy way to create memories with your family. It’s an opportunity to shift your focus, slow down and celebrate the light in your lives. This family-friendly dinner is a unique take on the holiday season, with a focus on the winter solstice, the shortest day and longest night of the year.
Winter solstice occurs just a few days before the main Christmas festivities start and this party theme is a great way to truly slow down and enjoy special moments with loved ones who have traveled in town for Christmas. With a beautiful shimmery table setting and flickering candles, stargazing in the backyard and DIY luminaries, this celebration will illuminate and uplift your holiday spirits.
I wanted this table setting to shine, so I used lots of metallic colors, candles and brilliant whites to create a glistening table setting, perfect for our Winter Solstice celebration. I started by setting the table with the metallic sentiment plates layered on top of white napkins with gold trim and gold chargers. I loved these plates because they had the perfect uplifting sentiments like “merry” and “joy” that help reinforce the message we are looking to spread with this celebration. This gorgeous table setting wouldn’t be complete without the gorgeous gold wave flatware, and metallic confetti glasses. I can see these items coming out throughout the entire holiday season—they are stunning!
I wanted this family dinner to be extra special so I created a beautiful centerpiece for the table. This year, my holiday decor was inspired by metallics and my Glam Metallic Farmhouse Christmas tree. To create this wintry look, I used the coconut twig table liner, glitter pinecone garland, copper tapper candle holders, gold mercury glass candle holders, copper micro LED light, and a cloche covered paper house. Everything sparkles and glows in the soft candle light and definitely creates the mood for our special dinner.
The focus of this dinner is to celebrate the light that our family members bring to our lives so I wanted to give them a beautifully wrapped gift that expresses just how much joy they bring. I asked everyone to write things they love about each family member on slips of paper ahead of time. Then, I collected each piece of paper, placed them in a box, and wrapped them with the beautiful Solstice Retro Wrapping Paper (available in store at World Market). These beautiful sentiments from family will be a treasured gift for many years to come.
A big part of our special dinner was to help us focus on spending time together as a family. Instead of everyone rushing off after dinner and going their separate ways, I planned a few activities to help us enjoy some quality time together. After dinner, we made DIY Paper Bag Luminaries. We took them outside and lined the walkway with our custom creations and then headed to the backyard for some stargazing. In the midst of the crazy holiday season it was nice to bundle up and snuggle with my little ones while gazing into the night sky.
After a beautiful candlelit dinner and quality time with my family, my heart feels so full and my soul is energized. This holiday season, step outside of the ordinary and plan an extraordinary Winter Solstice party to celebrate the light in your lives.
