There’s a reason Halloween is our favorite holiday! The costumes and the candy are enough to convince us that this is a red-circle calendar day, but a Halloween party is something we look forward to all year. Gatherings of friends dressed in ghoulish gear make for the best parties of the year, and you want to make sure you get invited back.
Here’s our at-a-glance list for a Halloween party win.
Halloween Party Etiquette: The Dos and Don’ts
Don’t: Show up without a costume.
Do: Make an effort, even if dressing up isn’t your thing. Wear funny glasses, a fake mustache or ugly teeth. Nothing says Debbie Downer like the person who shows up unadorned.
Don’t: Wear a costume with lots of glitter or feathers. Your host will be cleaning up glitter and feathers for months after the party has ended.
Do: Be original, but make sure you have a costume that doesn’t shed.
Don’t: Bring flowers. It’s not that kind of party. Plus, flowers require your host to do extra work, finding a vase, cutting the ends, etc.
Do: Bring a gift like our Black Skull Apothecary Jar for a gift your host can use again and again.
Don’t: Come empty handed. It’s still a get-together, so your hosts and hostesses will appreciate your kind gesture.
Do: Bring a bottle of wine. A bottle of wine in a Halloween theme is something everyone can share, like Monster Mash Lodi Red Blend or Spellbound Chardonnay.
Don’t: Show up completely tanked.
Do: Be a fun guest, but come with all your senses intact (wink, wink). You’ll get extra points if you let your host know you appreciate the invite by sending some thoughtful words on a quirky thank you card.
You should zoom through the Halloween party like a witch on a broom! Have a safe, fun and happy Halloween, no matter how you decide to celebrate!
