Keifer Thompson has sold millions of records with Shawna, his wife and the other half of their country music duo, Thompson Square. The two continue to perform in front of thousands of fans, their stars shining bright despite the pressures of country music fame, touring, and celebrity, so it comes as no surprise that the only thing Keifer wants to do on Father’s Day is to have a low-key celebration with Shawna and their toddler son, Cooper.
“This is just my second Father’s Day, and I love the fact that I have such an amazing family to share this day with. So to me, the perfect Father’s Day is a day spent with my two favorite people,” says Keifer.
Below, Keifer gives us a glimpse into his home life…and a sneak peek at his Father’s Day cookout playlist!
What are some of your favorite things to do with your son on any given day?
I love getting Cooper in the pool at our home. He loves the water and it brings back memories of me and my dad in the water when I was a kid, and how cool I thought it was to spend time with my dad in that way. Also, I recently took Cooper to McDonald’s for the first time and it was just us two. There is just something so cool about having a moment with your kid at McDonald’s for breakfast. I see many more of these mornings for us in the future.
We love your deck in the house…
I do, too! I’ve always been an early riser, and I love to get up in the morning, brew an extremely strong pot of coffee, grab a guitar and laptop, and spend a couple hours honing a song surrounded by trees and the sounds of nature on this very deck. Spending time here is about as good as it gets.
What are your top three favorite foods to grill?
I know it sounds silly, but I’m a hot dog junkie, so hot dogs followed by chicken and a perfectly done medium rare steak are my top three favorite things to grill.
What songs would be on your Father’s Day Cookout playlist?
- “The Joker” by Steve Miller
- “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright” by Bob Marley
- “Heathens” by 21 pilots
- “Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance
- “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz
What’s your go-to cocktail for Father’s Day?
I love my margaritas! I’m not a fan of high-end tequila [when making margaritas], but I’m not mad if you put a shot of Grand Marnier in there. I do, however, insist on Tres Agaves Organic Margaritas Mix. If you’re going to make margaritas at home, this is a must have. A little lime and salt on the rim and it’s gonna be a good day.
What’s one thing you swore to yourself you would never do as a dad, but you find yourself doing already?
I can’t say I really have an answer for that yet. There are certain things I promised myself I would and wouldn’t do as a dad, but those will come a little later. Right now, I’m just trying to figure it out as I go and I am desperately trying not to screw it all up!
