South African Style: Our Cape Town Clothing Collection

Our intrepid World Market buyers traveled to Cape Town, South Africa’s celebrated port city to explore inspiration for our new Cape Town Clothing Collection. They returned bearing the most captivating styles, patterns and textures!

Cape Town lies at the tip of Africa. A quick car ride south delivers you to the magical Cape of Good Hope, where animals like ostriches and penguins roam free. Travel northeast from Cape Town and you’re sure to glimpse storied creatures from impala to giraffes to elephants — as well as the richly cultural tribes who’ve long inhabited the landscape.

The Cape Town Clothing Collection

Our collection blends the chic metropolitan vibes of Cape Town with unique tribal traditions and a distinctive call of the wild. Here are a few of our favorite looks!

African Inspiration

This Jacquard Jacket is THE eclectic statement maker of the season. We adore its tribal-inspired black and white pattern and fringe detail. Pair it with our blush Iryna Top and a roomy bag for easy on-the-go boho style with a touch of South African allure.

Walk on the Wild Side

This breezy Oryx Bahati Dress offers a bold new take on the booming animal prints trend. Keep a Serengeti-chic theme running with a textural sweater in earthy shades. As a finishing flourish, add a pop of bright hues with a dazzling headband or scarf. Stash your essentials for the day in a fun, vintage-style olive purse — and then hit the road to adventure!

Fringe Benefits

Our Sage Green Fringe Sweater is a natural scene-stealer. Loaded with irresistible texture in a neutral goes-with-everything shade, this chic pullover culminates in an eye-catching curved hemline. Infuse African tribal flair into this ensemble with oversized plated fringed drop earrings, and opt for a simple layered necklace for subtle radiance.

Tribal Style is in the Bag

Inspired by age-old tribal Mud Cloth designs, this mesmerizing bag is one of our favorite finds. Mud cloth is historically handcrafted using heavy fabrics that are naturally dyed with mud in geometric dot-and-line patterns. Each design alludes to the folklore and customs of the individual tribe. This bag brings those incredible traditions to life in a truly dazzling way.

Are these clothes available here on your site? We were looking for the Indigo Blue items and we can’t find them for sale anywhere .

I was in your Northbrook,Ill. Store March 16 or 17,2018. I returned today to buy clothing I had seen… POOF! No store! I’ve been looking for the items on line-I don’t see them. I also visited your North Av store in Chicago. Not finding all I had seen. Any suggestions? I am looking for the smooth cotton terra cotta embroidered top. NOT the cotton gauze with the hippie sleeve….
    Thank you,suzanne Sklare-Platt

I’m from South Africa and Namibia and lived in Angola and Zambia. FYI…there are White people in Africa and Coloured and Indian and Arab and Portuguese and German etc etc etc……ITS CALLED THE RAINBOW NATION FOR A REASON! And most of the time our clothing reflects the same! Did not see much of that in the clothing. But hey slap a “African” animal on a piece of cloth and call it AFRICAN CLOTHING, there’s enough ignorant people out there that would buy it and walk around telling people it’s “African Clothing”

I know these Stores don’t go by cultures as they say, I’m Irish and Scot and my cultures clothing has been sold in stores that don’t represent my culture truly ..

Come on World Market- you reply to a comment about great shoes and dressing rooms but NOTHING about the lack of models of color in this collection? Whoever your PR and media people are, they’re living in the past if they think this won’t affect business. Step up! World’s waking up and moving on without you!

      Hi Rin,

We apologize that we did not answer in a timely manner. We passed on our reader’s concerns to our casting team, as we always appreciate feedback.

Thank you and have a great day.

Like most of the other comments said…..we want to see at least a few black models in African clothes …… this feels uncomfortable….and your exclusion. Is glaringly obvious.

  • barbara

If these styles are from African people where are the Africa models?

  • Cheryl NJ

I agree with Gebette. It’s 2018…The models look great, however the ad should be more ethnic diverse. I have shopped your stores, and the only salespeople wearing (African) South or North styles are Black.

  • Martha

I too have to agree with earlier response – Great line! Would have loved to seen African models of color used as well.
    Thank you, Martha

  • Gebette Taylor-Goode

Great line! Would have loved to seen African models of color used as well.

      Hi Roberta,

We are so happy you love our new line, it’s our favorite yet! The shoes used in this photography was for styling purposes only, sorry for any inconvenience.

Our stores do not have dressing rooms, but the majority of our clothing is loose and can easily be tried on over your clothes. We also have mirrors in the clothing sections as well.

      Happy shopping!
