The new year is here and it’s time to start thinking about changes we can make in our lives to make 2016 our healthiest year yet! It’s easy to make healthy eating choices at home, but when it comes to lunch, I know it can be difficult. There are so many fast and tempting options that can easily steer us in the wrong direction.
Today I’m going to give you a couple ideas for packed lunch items you can take to work with you; each choice is quick, easy and healthy! The first thing that’s important is portion control. I started my journey to a more healthy lifestyle at the end of 2015, and an important lesson I learned was that I was eating more than my body actually needed. If you eat good foods that fuel your body, you don’t need to eat a lot of them. I found this collapsible silicone lunch box, and I love it because the compartments are perfect for packing a variety of lunch items in just-right proportions.
There are hundreds of ways you could pack this lunch box, but today I’m going to give you two different ideas, each containing healthy items that are important for a power-packed, healthy lunch.
For this delicious lunch I used the Pepper Smoked Salmon as my protein. Not only is the smoked salmon a tasty treat, it’s also high in protein and low in fat! Calcium is another important ingredient for a healthy lunch, so to go along with my smoked salmon, I added some smoked gouda and a few pita chips, and tossed in some strawberries and blueberries (something sweet to snack on after all the smokey goodness).
For my next tasty lunch I kept it traditional with a healthy twist. I bought White Wine Salami, cheddar cheese and protein bread to make little sandwiches. This is a very protein-rich lunch so you don’t need more than a couple little sandwiches to keep you full and thriving for the rest of the afternoon. I also threw in some carrots because it’s important to make sure you’re eating lots of fruits and veggies throughout the day.
Both of these lunches are super healthy, packed with protein, and they took me less than five minutes to prep.
The packed lunches are also very delicious, which is important; if it’s healthy but doesn’t taste good, you’re not going to stick with it! Treat yourself to a healthy lunch that tastes good, and welcome the new year with a better, healthier version of yourself.
