Rated 5 out of 5 by I LIKE THE WHITLEY WIDE DRESSER I bought the Whitely Wide Dresser two days ago, but didn't put it together until today. I made sure I was prepared to build it first, and got out all the tools I would need. Besides what is in the flat-pack box when you buy the Whitley Wide dresser, I used my power drill/screwdriver, a regular screwdriver, a rubber mallet, wood glue, and some beeswax that I purchased at a hardware store. The directions, as in all these type products, aren't very clear so it is important to look at each drawn picture very well before you begin, as well as while you are building. There are very few words, just pictures. Make sure that your pieces are in the same direction as the picture before you screw anything in place. I built methodically - not in a rush - making sure I did each step correctly. I think the most difficult part was installing all the hex screws with the Allen wrench, because there were tight spaces and you had to keep taking the Allen wrench out of the screw and re-placing it back in to turn and turn. It was time consuming. Also, I put wood glue between each piece of wood to get a good grip and hold the dresser together better - then I'd screw in the screws. The dresser wasn't difficult to put together, just take your time and do it right. HINT - the package of wooden dowels are the "stops" on each drawer. After building each drawer, I tapped them in the appropriate holes from the inside, as shown, just until they reached the outside edge of the hole. Then you put the drawer into the dresser just far enough so that the stop is inside, then use the mallet to tap the dowel from the inside of the drawer so that you have half of the dowel inside the drawer and half out. This will "stop" the drawer as you pull the drawer open, and keep it from falling out of the dresser. You WILL have half the dowel inside the drawer, but if you tap the dowel out too far, the drawer won't move because the dowels are dragging on the insides of the dresser. BUT BEFORE you put the drawers into the dresser, it is a GREAT idea to rub a heavy coat of beeswax on all the inside parts of the dresser on which the drawers will slide, AND on the side indentations on each drawer. The wood against wood, makes the drawers sticky and they won't slide well unless you use beeswax first. Then quickly slide each drawer in and out, over and over again to "warm" the beeswax and make each drawer slide well. I used my power drill/screwdriver on all the wood screws, except that I used my hand screwdriver to put on the drawer handles. If you don't rush, and you take care building each section, you will end up with a very nice dresser. October 28, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great Product I bought this today and built it in very little time. If you have ever built furniture here are some things that you will appreciate. The hardware is good and solid and the screws do not strip the minute you start screwing them in. The holes all line up and the furniture is sturdy. This is wood not manufactured wood. Large pieces are already assembled so this is not a box full of tiny pieces that need to be screwed together. When it is finished it is sturdy, solid, and you feel like you have a good piece of furniture. The color is more gray then the picture appears so if you are buying this online take that into consideration. I am glad I bought this product and will be purchasing more from World Market because of it. February 15, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor Quality I was really disappointed in this dresser. It's so cute and exactly what I wanted for our room. It was poor quality and when we put it together the middle drawer broke within a week. The bottom drawer was not quite right either. My boyfriend has assembled several pieces of furniture from World Market and we have loved every piece until now. It was definitely the product and not the assembly. Had I assembled it myself I may have thought it was my doing something incorrectly, but it unfortunately is cheaply made. I am pretty sure World Market will take it back after it was assembled which is a big plus because we are returning it this week. Such a bummer because I have had such great experience with their furniture prior to this purchase. November 10, 2014
