Wham-O: Fun that Never Goes Out of Style
A quintessential name in the history of fun, Wham-O was founded in a Pasadena, California home garage by Arthur "Spud" Melin and Richard Knerr in 1948. The company was named after the sound made by their very first toy, the Wham-O Slingshot, which, like their many other novelties, would win the hearts of millions of kids around the world. The company quickly became one of the leading toy manufacturers in the decades that followed, going on to popularize classics like the Hula Hoop, Frisbee, Hacky Sack and Limbo Kit. The invention of the Superball, an extremely bouncy ball that bounces up to 75 feet, was an instant hit that led to the creation of Superball Golf and Superball Dice, which put an extra lively twist on traditional games.
Now the children of parents who enjoyed these timeless toys in decades past can have some classic Wham-O fun of their own. And just like you may remember, Wham-O toys still come in their original retro packaging for an especially nostalgic touch.
