The Story Behind It

The Benefits of Bamboo

Found throughout Asia, Bamboo is not a tree but actually a type of grass-one of largest in its family. Prized as being one of the fastest growing plants in the world, bamboo plants can grow up to 47 inches in a single day, and up to 80 feet at peak height. Bamboo quickly re-grows after being harvested without replanting, making it a wonderful source of renewable wood.

Bamboo has a variety of uses, from food to medicine, and building materials to textiles. We love bamboo not only for its eco-conscious qualities, but also for its density and durability in a broad range of household items. Bamboo is great in the kitchen, especially in the form of utensils like the classic bamboo rice paddle and cutting board. It can even be woven to create lovely trays, baskets and other serveware. Bamboo can also be used to craft beautiful vases, wind chimes and other home ornaments. As the Chinese symbol for longevity, your bamboo-crafted items are sure to endure everyday use.

Bamboo-Tongs 3 5 1 1
just okay I usually love everything I get from World Market, this is a great site with wonderful and unique products. However, I wasn't especially pleased with this particular purchase. The tips of these tongs don't line up nicely, which is not exactly a big deal but it does bother me. I even tried steaming them into proper alignment with no luck. It's only maybe 3 or 4 mm off but I'd never have bought them, even as inexpensive and otherwise nice as they are, if I'd seen them in the store instead of on the website. It's probably just a fluke but just to let you know... August 19, 2013
