This tangine is a wonderful and useful addition to my kitchen. Smooth glazed finish cleans up easily every time and looks like new. My favorite dish to prepare is Morroccan chicken (or lamb) and my kids LOVE it!
The meat always comes out moist and tender and the veggies all blend with the meat juices to create a rich fragrant broth. I usually serve it over rice or sautéed polenta to absorb every drop. It accommodates at least a 6lb chicken which easily serves four. If you need to stretch the servings to six then use only deboned chicken or lamb.

Got this for my birthday and was so excited to use it, so when the tagine broke apart on the stove top and spilled my dinner all over the floor, I was extremely disappointed… First of all, the tagine did not come with any instructions for use, and neither did the "Tagine" cookbook World Market sells. I knew that surely this terra cotta vessel could not be used directly on a burner, so I looked up a "how to" on cooking in a tagine. All the sites I found said that a diffuser was required (not mentioned at all by World Market), so I purchased a diffuser specifically for cooking in earthen ware on the stovetop. I began cooking on the lowest setting, with the diffuser, and noticed that it would take a very long time for this tagine to get hot enough to actually cook anything, but I was patient. A few minutes in, I heard a crack, but the "how to-s" said that small cracks in the finish were to be expected so I thought nothing of it. However, as I poured in the broth for my recipe, I noticed a large, leaking crack on the side of the tagine (please not that the tagine had not been dropped and had been carefully wrapped since it was purchased, so the crack was not there before I began cooking). Not wanting this to make a mess all over my stove, I decided to try to pour it all into a saucepan to cook (food was still lukewarm, not hot). When I carefully touched the tagine to pick it up, it literally cracked into 5 big pieces (and several little ones) and spilled my dinner all over myself, the stove and the floor. Thank goodness the food was not hot or I could have been badly injured!

This may be a display piece, or maybe even a serving vessel, but DO NOT cook in it! You could be seriously hurt!

Aside from that, the tagine cracked at an extremely low temp, so there is no way that it just got too hot. Also no way that food would ever cook in this without it cracking.

I bought 4 of them. They can't be used in the oven or on the stove. I tried it in both cases and the bottom part cracked and broke. Very poor quality. Is worthless.

Mine broke on the first use. I used it on the stove top with a diffuser and gentile heat. Afterwards, I read up on types of tagine materials. Contrary to the advertising on this website, terra cotta pots such as this one should not be used on a stove top. Some tagines made from refractory ceramic may be safe to use on the stove top. Metal base tagines are definitely safe.

I really like my Tagine. I have used it a few times and the food is very good. I made chicken with fresh garlic, zucchini and squash. Cooked it at low temp. turned out great.
