Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 8 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Does what it claims! Purchased two - one arrived broken in half, for which I was quickly refunded. The other was in perfect condition. Just putting it out there that you might want to look for these in stores, rather than risk damage in shipping. The product itself is beautiful. I just like looking at it. It's lovely, earthy, people are drawn to it immediately. As mentioned by other reviewers - there is a lip, which prevents sliding dough in & out of the oven easily. The remedy is to very carefully remove the lip, by chipping away at the terracotta. OR - put pizzas on a 10" metal pan, resting on the lip, spinning the pan a quarter turn every 10-20 seconds. Heating the oven. I had an old, 3-burner propane grill. I covered the grill in yellow firebricks, and put the terracotta oven over the bricks. I heated the bricks from below, while building a fire inside the oven. The oven is small, and only takes kindling sized wood. How hot can you get this oven? With the above method, it got over 900 degrees F! Way too hot for pizza. Let it drop down to 750-800 degrees, and we were cranking out one 10" pizza every minute to 90 seconds. You need to keep throwing wood at the fire between pizzas though, because it drops in heat quickly. Even though they say to keep the fire at the back of the oven - we get the best results by spreading it from the back, all around the sides, almost to the opening. That leaves a good 12" diameter in the center/front for cooking. Heating from the bottom, with the grill (+ fire in the oven) gets you a 90 second pizza with leopard spotting. Our guests loved it - even though some of the pizzas had a bit more char on them than most people like. The favorite pizza was made with a swirl of fig preserves, caramelized onions with fresh thyme, and slices of triple cream brie. While two people manned the terracotta oven, two other people continued to bake 17" pizzas in the traditional manner, in the kitchen oven that only gets to 500 degrees F. Bottom line... There is no way to feed a crowd with this oven. It's a novelty. A really fun & beautiful novelty, that does exactly what it says it does! February 15, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome! I wasn't expecting a whole lot out of this oven as it is only a fraction of the price of a real wood fired oven kit that you build but I was amazed at how good the pizza tasted. Took only 20 min to build a 450* fire and baked the pizza in only a couple minutes. Really easy to use. I find using generous amounts of cornmeal on the bottom of the oven and under the pizza dough helps when you transfer the pizza from the pan to the oven as well as rotating the pizza so everything is cooked properly. This is an amazing product! November 24, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by This product is worth every penny! I purchased this oven because I've been contemplating purchasing an outdoor pizza oven for a long time but the prices kept me away. I stumbled up on this wood-fired gem for under $100.00 and I am more than pleased with my purchase. I had no problem getting the wood going and once the oven got HOT, whoa baby, the pizza cooked in under 5 minutes. You have to watch it though, because the pizza needs to be turned. The side closest to the wood, in the back of the oven, will burn. I want to order another, just for back up! June 3, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Cute and rustic appearance, but do not expect a great oven with amazing results. The terracotta pizza oven is an alternative for those that cannot spend thousands for a wood oven. It is conveniently small to be placed in a small area on your yard or outdoor kitchen along your grill pit. It has a cute rustic appearance which will enchant your outdoor kitchen area. The cons are: -It has a lip on the border of the open floor area making very difficult to place, to turn and to recover the pizza from the oven if you fix the pizza all the way in. -The floor of the oven doesn't get hot easily, so you won't get the crispy crust of the pizza and probably will leave the dough raw, if you don't make adjustments. This happens since it tends to get extremely hot (over 700* hot) inside the oven when the wood is well fired up. So, it will cook pretty well the top of the pizza but not the bottom. -In my case, the open border of the oven was less than 12", so I just can cook small pizzas. Plans to resolve the issues: I'm planning to reduce the lip on the floor and border of the open area in order to place pizzas on the floor of the oven and to cook as big as 12" pizzas. I'll probably place a stone on the floor of the oven to see if it can stay hot longer and get crispy crust and not a raw crust. Did I said I really like its appearance? January 18, 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Kicks out the heat Takes awhile to get the fire building down but once you've got it heated up it works like a charm. Small so don't expect to cook a 16" pizza in there. I've only tried it with flatbread and thin crust pizza and it performed pretty well. It can also double as a patio heater as it gets pretty hot and the whole unit heats up making for a great little heater without an open fire. Quite the novelty. May 16, 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by does a good job small size perfect for 2 to 3 people just need to make sure you build a good size fire and keep adding wood after you move the coals from the middle. better to spread the coals to the back and sides for a better cooking experiance. we made garlic sauce with mozzerralla spinach smoked salmon and capers was really nice. Rated 3 out of 5 by Disappointing (sigh) I've been making pizza on my Weber gas grill for years with excellent results. I get a nice crisp bottom crust and chewy edges...always delicious. But, I've always liked the taste of wood fired pizza so I thought this little oven would be great. I'm sorry to say I was not very impressed. Pros: Small size, good quality, very cute, light weight and up heats fairly fast(make sure you start the fire in the middle of the oven and let it heat up nice and hot) Cons: only holds a 12 inch pizza, bottom crust doesn't bake that well, you must turn the pizza every 10-15 seconds or the edges will burn. So, I'll stick with my gas grill. I can put a 16-18 inch pizza on it and it cooks in 5-7 minutes. I'll use the terra cotta oven as a chimnea. I hope my review helps those contemplating this product. Rated 1 out of 5 by Product could potentially fill a market niche but wasn't able to test. I was excited to try this little oven, but unfortunately it had been damaged in shipping and was delivered broken in half :( so I never got to try it. May 1, 2015
