Alright overall - You get what you pay for

Comments about Telescope Floor Lamp Base:

As always, you get what you pay for.

Overall I'm satisfied with the purchase. It looks elegant. The issues I have with it are probably only things that someone who actually takes it out of the box and assembles it are likely to notice.

Biggest issue: the socket where the light fixture attaches to the steel downtube has the female part of the screw exactly where you'd expect. The male part of the same screw, at the top of the downtube, looks like someone tried to etch the teeth in with a dull knife, before giving up and just putting it in the box. What I'm saying is that the top of the steel downtube may as well be a smooth piece of metal, with no way to then use the screw on the fixture to attach it. As such, I've pretty much just pushed it forcefully on - this seems to balance it, only because the fixture and shade are relatively light. But if you move the lamp or try to adjust the lamp shade, the top part will pop right back off the downtube. Epoxy might do the trick, but I'm trying to weigh if its worth it for me.

The second issue is at the feet - each leg has a small, maybe 2 inch "metal" sock at the very bottom. Two of these are on there with no problem - the third slides up and down the wood freely, meaning it pretty much rests around the wooden leg, but supported by the floor. Thinking it was metal I tried to bend the smallest kink into it so that it would seat securely on the metal, but when it started making cracking noises I realized it was plastic so I've just let it be, resting on the floor.

Lastly, and this is a small issue, but the legs hinge not only along the axis you'd expect, but since they have a bit more play at the joint where they connect to the metal center piece of the lamp, the also wiggle across the axis of the hinge. The result of this is that it takes a fair amount of fiddling with the leg lengths, and trying to also position the legs into a relatively equilateral triangle, before you can get the whole lamp to sit level. This is probably made worse by the insecure fixture at the top, as I'm sure it isn't level compared to the downtube and I don't want to risk knocking it off again trying to get it to be.

Anyway, the equivalent lamp anywhere else is some multiple more expensive, so as always, you get what you pay for. Just wanted to give anyone a heads up, that if it is going to be a centerpiece in your room as opposed to off in a corner, you may be better off spending a bit more money.

Poor Quality

Comments about Telescope Floor Lamp Base:

For over $100 , I would expect better quality. The wooden legs are starting to bend/warp!
The tightening mechanism on all of the legs do not work well, and often I find my lamp lopsided.
I wouldn't spend more than $60 on a lamp like this for the quality you get. Disappointing.

poor construction

Comments about Telescope Floor Lamp Base:

I bought this lamp because I love the look but the construction is very poor. The top plastic piece that holds the light-bulb broke after a couple months. It tips over very easily. The lamp legs are very flimsy. I was very upset since I liked the look a lot.

Looks great.. very poor quality

Comments about Telescope Floor Lamp Base:

Loved the look of this lamp.. but like many posted here the actual product is not as good looking.. cord is in fact unsightly and overall it is VERY poorly constructed… the screws that hold the legs and top post in place are very cheap metal.. the legs slip.. the top post will creep down.. rarely stays level because of the poor materials.. (Two of the brackets that hold the legs broke on mine within a few months) I have a number of pieces from World Market and this is the only thing which was not well made.. returning mine tomorrow.. although it looks good.. I do not recommend this item at all..
