Yes, the box containing the materials was EXTREMLY heavy! I am pleased however with the sturdiness of this chest. I took the advise of another reviewer and used GORILLA brand wood glue as I assembled it. I am okay with the price considering the alternative for me was buying another IKEA piece of furniture that would cost half as much and last only about 2 years. The vertical design is fantastic and offers much more space in the tiny room it now lives in.
A wood panel that runs along the base of the dresser was torn off when it arrived, I had to basically nail it back into place. Then there was the odor. Smells like some kind of chemical in the wood, but my entire closet smells of it now. It's been about three months, and it's not going away. Oh, and then the brackets that basically hold the thing together started coming apart. I had to screw in some L brackets just to keep the thing together. Total garbage.
I kind of gambled on this dresser hoping it would work in the small spot I have for it. It ended up fitting perfectly and it looks so good. The build quality is so much better than other assemble-yourself type furniture stores.
The chest is everything I thought it would be (unfortunately due to modern day wood furniture...it's not a superb thing). I love the height and dimensions. I have a tiny apartment and this maximizes space by going vertical--the tallest dresser I've found. The only drawback is once assembled, it is not as secure as I wish this type of furniture to be. Drawers inside, the dresser is firm and heavy--but when moving it around it is slightly wobbly. If you are confident in your assembly techniques, I suggest adding a little super glue/wood glue while doing the first two pages (frame of dresser).
