Great size, nice looking, but the filter reeks and smells

Comments about Shiny Galvanized Ceramic Compost Bucket:

Everything about this compost bucket meets my criteria. Doesn't take up much space on the counter yet holds a fair amount of scraps so you're not always going to the curbside compost pail every day. Looks really nice (at least in my kitchen) and the quality is there.

My only, and biggest gripe, is the vile odor that gets trapped in the charcoal filter pad. I started noticing an awful smell in my house after the 2nd or 3rd week of use. Naturally I'd walk over to the compost bucket, lift the lid, and smell in there. It reeked no matter what was in it, even if only for a day or so also. So I'd change the bag, disinfect the ceramic and move on. Smell still lingers.

So I smelled the charcoal filter pad and it is so rancid and vile. I washed it with mild lavender soap and warm water and let it dry in the sun. It still reeks. I have no idea what my deal is because other reviews claim the pad holds no odor.

I am not in the market to buying a $2 filter pad every month. This is a 5-star product but the filter pad issue (at least in my case) knocks it down to a 3-star rating.

Hopefully I get it situated because I love the compost bin on my counter (and the impact composting has environmentally) but I can't really deal with this constant smell in my home.
