Great as a Continuous Brewer for Kombucha! I wanted to start a continuous brewing system for my kombucha (fermented tea, for the uninitiated). I bought an expensive water crock online but it was TOO big. Right after the crock arrived, I found these (and other models) at my local Cost Plus--this one is just the right size, and much less expensive! I sold the crock and bought this instead, and I couldn't be happier. I removed the top and bailer--the kombucha needs air so I tie a piece of cloth around the top to keep dust and bugs out, while letting air circulate. The wide opening at the top facilitates cleaning and SCOBY management. The plastic spigot is a plus, because a metal spigot would erode with continuous exposure to the acidic liquid. I have had no problems with the spigot dripping. And it's replaceable, if it ever does have a problem. This is just the right size for me--I'm the only one drinking kombucha in my house and the capacity is just right to be able to draw off about 16 oz at a time and leave enough to keep the ferment going (you could safely take even more). It's not too heavy to slide forward to the edge of the counter to get bottles underneath. As a great fan of canning jars, I love the look. It's not too big around, so it fits nicely on my counter, and it's attractive. The name "Savannah" is embossed on the jar, so now my kombucha SCOBY's name is Savannah. I'm very happy I bought this jar. December 9, 2013
This product exceeded my expectations! I was thinking of ordering a much more expensive drink dispenser that was very similar to this one when a friend recommended your store. WOW! This is such a nice dispenser for the money. I ordered these for my daughters graduation party and was so pleased at how they turned out. I had a rustic themed garden party and bought three of these to serve lemonade, lemon water and iced tea. The spout is not real metal but it is very well made and turns on and off very easily. Thank you for carrying nice, well made products at reasonable prices! May 31, 2013
A Gift to Help with Hosting Parties My husband and I gave this as a gift to a friend who hosts several large parties every year. She squealed with delight when she opened it because it exactly fits with her taste (she cans food) and she didn't have a drink dispenser yet. I picked it because it fit within our budget constraints for gifts and I knew she'd love it. I did warn her about a couple of things. One, the spout might be loose so she may need to tighten it before the first use. Two, do NOT pour very hot—especially boiling hot—liquid directly into it. It'll likely crack the glass and ruin the dispenser. Another thing to note is that the spout isn't stainless or anything. But it will wear well with careful use and storage. I have a similar dispenser with a similar spout and though it'd be nice to have a quality metal version, our spout has held up well with regular use for three years now. You'll be hard pressed to find something as nice as this for less than $100 with a metal spout. May 22, 2013
A master piece for a mason jar collector If you love mason jars you will take pride of own this beautiful piece to entertain . I am not crazy with the spigot, but is easy to fix. I will definitely order one more and love them. June 6, 2013
Great dispenser for the money Like other posts that the secret lies within the spigot. Unfortunately this is a plastic spigot so I gave it a 4-star rating. Still, I have had no leaks so far (it's sat for 2 days and no drips or leaks). I love the glass dispenser with a classic mason jar style and it matches my kitchen. I also know of a website to get a metal spigot if the plastic one gives me any trouble (and I will still have spent less than other glass dispensers with metal spigots). I think it's a great buy! Fun for summer entertaining Just got this drink dispenser. Bought it because I want something study and not so breakable. I like that there is "on & off" on the spigot. Almost 2 gallans. Can wait to fill it up!!!! April 27, 2013
Loved the style... But functionality was not there. It looked great on my table, but you have to leave the lid cracked for the vacuum affect so the spigot works. Also it is very difficult to wash. I couldn't decide between this one & the mason jar style and I wish I had gotten the mason jar. Also, I would have paid more to have a cute stand (galvanized) - its a BIG jar, so precarious to have on the edge of your counter when full. I used a flared bowl w/the correct bottom size and placed it upside down on the table with the jar on top for stability. I couldn't bring myself not to recommend this b/c it just looks so good and the value is fantastic - if you are willing to put up with some inconvenience and can be creative for presenting it safely on your table, then go for it. My next purchase is the mason jar style though. November 14, 2013
Beautiful, but with a disappointing lack of functionality I had the Savannah Drink Dispenser sitting out in my kitchen for several weeks until I had to opportunity to use it. I frequently admired its simple design, and it almost became a focal point in the room. Basically, I was thrilled with the item- right up until I tried to use it. After realizing that, to get any liquid out, the lid needed to be cracked open a bit, I set the dispenser on the counter and began filling drinks. I had not served one full glass when the plastic spigot’s handle popped right off in my hand. For the rest of the party, guests ladled out cocktails by hand, which would be fine if the dispenser didn’t have a spigot for that purpose. I understand that you get what you pay for, but for something that loses functionality within minutes, I feel like money was wasted. I would recommend something like the Agua Fresca Barrel instead. The Savannah’s plastic spigot is just not workable. January 14, 2014
