Comments about Munkebo Smoked Salmon in EVOO, Set of 2:

I'm a big tinned seafood fan, always on the lookout for interesting international offerings. I'll eat and enjoy anything from oil-soaked Latvian sprats to spicy Filipino coconut bonito steaks from my local Asian market. Naturally, this Danish Munkebo salmon stood out to me. (I also purchased the DIll tin, but I have yet to sample that.)

Unfortunately, I have to say I was pretty disappointed. The fish turned out to be lower-grade farmed chum in relatively flavorless olive oil. It was heavily salted, artificially "smoked" with added flavoring, and the "filet" inside was just a dense, machined hunk of meat that looked nothing like the fancy image on the label.

Don't get me wrong -- it tasted good enough, and I suppose it'd work as a quick salty addition to an omelette or something to add to a cracker plate at a picnic. I just don't think it was worth the price tag at all, especially after calculating the steep per-pound rate. To me, this stuff is more reminiscent of the pink salmon you'll find in a grocery store than a filet you'd want to serve over wild rice.

I do love World Market, but next time I'm picking up a different tin!
