The Mystique of Bindi
"Bindi" is derived from the Sanskrit word "bindu," meaning drop, and suggests the mystic third eye of a person. Traditionally it is a dot of red color applied in the center of the forehead, an area close to the eyebrows known as the sixth chakra, or "anja," which is thought to be the space of concealed wisdom. In modern India, the bindi has become a decorative fashion item and is no longer restricted to one color or shape. Because the bindi is not only a spiritual symbol, it is worn in many unique styles that include combinations of sequins, glass beads, and rhinestones.
