Brown some Italian sausage, drain and set aside -- reserve some dripping and use in place of oil. 3 hours of simmering, and this is an EXCELLENT soup!

I have not tried these soup mixes yet, bought them purely on looks, they look GREAT and I have high hopes for them.
They would be a good idea to build a gift basket around.

This has become a staple in our house. We also keep a stock on hand in our motor home. It is my favorite soup. Add a salad and breadsticks and it makes a great dinner. It does take awhile for the beans to cook, but in a couple of hours you have the best soup ever.

I do not cook. I am severely challenged in the kitchen. This soup is so simple even I can manage to cut up a few vegetables, sauté them and together with the dry ingredients in the package add them to store bought broth, and simmer it for a few hours. It is always consistently excellent. It is fool proof. I have Italian members in my family that cook their own pasta. I have served this soup to them and they love it and don't realize that I have not stood in the kitchen for hours making the beans etc. The soup is very hearty, can be a meal by itself with bread. The most critical element to a great soup is the spices and these are perfect!!
