Rated 5 out of 5 by OaklandScott Makes the real deal I've been eating King Cakes annually for 20 years now. Even in New Orleans. I've tried to make one from scratch, but it never turned out as good as this mix. I wish Cost Plus would carry them year round. Be careful not to over bake or it will be dry. The directions say 20 - 25 minutes and the lower end works best for me. I always add nuts to the praline and add more powdered sugar to create a bit more glaze. March 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Cherie Great cake It was my first experience baking a king cake so it wasn't all that pretty but it tastes fantastic! Everything you need is included and there aren't any unneeded leftovers (colored sugar crystals). It requires time to rise so plan time for that. It's a great cake and I wouldn't have gotten such a fresh and delicious cake for the price if I had purchased it at a store/bakery. Great product! March 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Donaldopato Great King Cake This makes an excellent king cake. I had a New Orleans theme Christmas dinner and thus king cakes were not readily available in the market. It was a great hit and turned out fine. A bit of a chore to make but worth it. January 4, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by cherryZippurple Everything you need--fun tradition This mix makes a really nice King Cake. A fun new tradition for my family. It is a little expensive at full price (I got it on discount), but it contains all the colored sugar toppings and baby, which would cost a significant portion of the price of the mix anyway. The "cake" is really big--enough for a party. The directions were easy to follow (though they did require rising so plan for some extra time) and the end result was tasty. I usually do not like mixes and had bought this more for the experience than taste, but I thought the end result was great. I would definitely buy it again and recommend it. December 29, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Vondode Great Traditional King Cake This is a great box mix for anyone who is out of NOLA for Mardi Gras, wants a king cake anytime of the year, or isn't comfortable making one from scratch. It is traditional, so it's just a sweet bread covered in glaze and sugar. This may surprise some people who think a king cake is a cinnamon roll filled with cream cheese icing. A little expensive for what it is, but very easy to make with what's provided. February 9, 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by lorirc AWFUL I had such high hopes for this. I have had king cake before, and I loved it. This is terrible! It is just bread with some flavoring and sprinkles. I would not tell anyone to buy this. Disgusting. February 5, 2013
