These little lunch boxes remind me of the good ole days,
I bought one for my husband and I. It's the perfect size lunchbox for a picnic in the park.
This is a "cute" container, but it is very small. I may be able to pack 1/2 a regular lunch in it. It maybe better for snacks, but not a full lunch unless the portion is bird size!
I bought this because the label said it was "made of stainless steel". I'm actually looking at the label right now. So I'm disturbed that the web site says it's made of "hammered metal". BIG difference. I hope the web site is wrong, rather than the label. "Metal" could mean anything and with lead a factor in developing countries, I always look for stainless steel. Of course stainless steel also has good rust resistant properties. If it is stainless steel, it's a good deal. My rating reflects the question about material with a Yes recommendation if it's stainless steel.
I found a great use for this product. Light-weight cooking sets (mess kits, etc.) for 1 or 2 persons on backpacking or bike-packing camping trips are very expensive for what you get if you go for the ultra-light sets or are cheap and don't perform well for cooking over a compact single-burner backpacking stove. I've tried camping "mess-kits" but they're made of thin metal and the food scorches before the heat spreads. Thick pans are heavy. But this Tiffin box makes a great double-boiler cooking setup which heats or cooks food in the upper tier while water boils in the lower tier. The size is just right for 1 or 2 people to prepare and serve a simple meal in camp. I used the upper tier to heat a heat-and-eat rice packet, then the lower tier's boiling water was used for a boil-in-bag entre which was put onto the rice when heated. The lid kept the rice tier warm while it sat on the table waiting for the topping. The boiling water was then poured into a cup with a soup mix (or instant beverage). A meal was ready in minutes, without scorching. The whole Tiffin box is about 4.5" diameter, 4.5" tall, and weighs 12.4 ounces. You can store things inside of it when packed up since it latches.
I was surprised at how small this was when I got it in the mail. I would not have purchased it in the store had I seen the size. That being said, it is a great little Tiffin box that I can pack my daughters lunch in and it doesn't take up her whole backpack.
