Rated 4 out of 5 by Elegant tea carafe I've been enjoying this gorgeous tea carafe for a few months now. This is a tea carafe meant for use with loose leaf tea although you could use it with a tea bag and chuck the strainer. I have used it with teas from teavana and my go-to tea Twinings English Breakfast loose leaf that you can find in a tin at Cost Plus. It works great if used correctly. I believe the loose leaf tea should be added to the bottom of the carafe and then the hot tea is added and the strainer attached. This way the tea can bloom without being constrained and when you drink it, the strainer keeps the leaves (that have now plumped up) from leaving the carafe. I've also done it with tea first, then strainer, then hot water but sometimes the strainer prohibits the water from pouring nicely down into the carafe. If you're going to add sugar you can add that when you add your tea. The bottle is gorgeous, the 10 oz size is perfect for tea, and the double wall makes it possible to hold it without burning your hands. May 2, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by I love this thing! I use this tea carafe first thing in the morning and sometimes all day! It makes a great cup of tea by steeping the tea 3 minutes in the metal basket and that's it! I drink straight out of the carafe, put the lid back on and it keeps it warm. Comes out of the dishwasher perfectly clean. March 29, 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Can't beat the price but there are problems It pains me to complain about something that's so incredibly cheap. If you threw away the infuser and just used it as a glass, travel bottle it would be perfect and still ridiculously inexpensive. The problem with the strainer is that it's very shallow (as another reviewer mentioned) so when the tea blooms, it's difficult to find the strainer handle under the pile of wet tea. Also, if you're brewing steeped tea it's best to fill it with water then put the strainer and tea in, then close the lid and invert. The problem with this is that the strainer is metal and incredibly hot. I've had to use a fork both times to get it out. The holes of the strainer are also too big. I'm using a chopped tea and small flakes will slip through. Luckily tea leaves aren't harmful to eat and quite the opposite, they are very healthy for you. But I have no desire to drink flakes of tea. The Pros: I don't want you to think it's all bad. the double walls work like magic. Whenever I pick it up it feels a bit warm and I'm worried that the tea is already cool but I take a sip and it's still piping hot :) Also, it's gorgeous, doesn't leak, and is the perfect size (about 8 ounces of actual tea space). It would work better if the strainer was twice as deep and mesh instead of the holes. But since this is not the case, I would suggest full leaves, tea bags, or placing fine tea in a tea bag. I also might try using a mesh tea ball instead. It's not like you're going to actually brew the tea on the go with a limited steep time because where are you going to put the wet leaves? In a cupholder? I do really love this glass and I hate to complain but it just doesn't do a good job for what I purchased it for. December 28, 2013
Rated 3 out of 5 by beautiful but the basket is too shallow love the design but trying to brew tea in it is an exercise in futility. you can only fit a tiny bit of looseleaf in it, and then when you try to get it out it is impossible to remove without spilling the leaves all back into the glass. and forget about trying roobios... it just goes straight through the big ole holes. because i love the way it looks i have been looking for another one elsewhere similar to this design but they all have the shallow baskets. do tea drinkers not actually use the mugs they create? i don't get it at all.
