This item came out of the mold with a lot of leftover rubber around the design, especially in the outside border. Maybe you are looking to spend time with a mat knife or box cutter to clean it up? Maybe you are putting it on a black surface where the defects won't show?- because they sure show up on a light concrete surface. It rained ONCE on this mat, then grayish white blotches appeared, which did not go away when the mat dried. Also noticed weird shiny areas, thought it was snail slime but no, it is glue that was used at factory to glue some broken edges back togeether- again, mostly on the big curls of outer border. One moderate rain (ahem it IS spring in drought-ridden California) the glue turned shiny then flaked off. Have owned it less than one month used very lightly (we haven;t even moved into house yet, and took it out of contractors' way), it looks like garbage, has been relegated to the back deck.
This is a good, basic doormat. I've had it about a month now, and it seems to wear well through the snow, ice, salt, rain, etc. (Will winter never end?!) It was packaged poorly when it arrived (several pieces of flat cardboard haphazardly taped together), but it's a rubber doormat, so you know...no harm done.
