Great bed! I love this bed! My bf and I purchased a king size last December (almost a year ago) and have been very happy with it. It was simple to put together and seems to be made out of quality materials. We don't use a box spring, we don't miss having one. Between my bf, our bulldog, and I, the bed is supporting a little over 400lbs each night and we haven't noticed any issues at all. There is a bit of extra space, a couple inches or so, around the mattress. To keep pet hair from falling into the drawers underneath we cut two large pieces of plywood to fit, spraypainted them black and have the mattress sitting on them. The drawers are very large and roll easily on our laminate floor. We don't use them on a daily basis though, they're used for storage. We don't have a headboard yet, but we're planning on making one. We just stuff a couple extra pillows between the wall and the mattress to keep the pillows we use from sliding off the end during the night. Another reason I'm so happy with the bed is because of the great deal we got, we purchased it on sale and were able to use an additional coupon on it as well. Great quality at a great price? Awesome! Very solid I have had this platform bed for over 2 years and it is holding up extremely well. Still looks new. One of the best purchases i have ever made. I love it June 19, 2013
Best Bed Ever! After 2 yrs., I can say this is an exceptional bed. It is made of primarily beautiful dark wood and yes some veneer - but it looks very rich and solid. I love the aesthetics of it as it has nice simple lines that goes well with my Asian-inspired decor. It is well built and we have a 10" memory foam mattress on top - so it is a bit low but you can add a box spring to it to adjust to a different height. It is very comfortable..but that may be the mattress more than the bed frame - however the slates are holding up really well. The best part...the drawers (2 large ones on both sides). They are on rollers so it works best on wood floors (not carpet) and are easy to pull out and push in. They are large and hold a lot + they can be pulled out completely so you can do a thorough clean under your bed. November 5, 2012
Very pleased! This bed was everything that I wanted. The drawers are HUGE! I was very surprised. I love the color and the look of the bed. It looks exactly like what is pictured on the web. I got rid of my box spring. The slats are really comfortable. I can’t even tell the difference. Putting the bed together wasn’t that difficult. It took about 4 hours to put together. One bit of advice, don’t tighten all the screws until you have the slats in. I tightened the bed then I couldn’t get the slats in. The only negative is that I have a nightstand that I can no longer use because the drawer opens up right into the nightstand. To me this isn’t that big of a deal. I need the storage more than the nightstand. September 3, 2012
Good Deal. I decided to practice minimalism thus I purchased this bed to replace my old platform bed that had no storage. I'm very happy with the bed and especially the storage. It looks sleek, the drawers are HUGE ( I was able to get rid of a full-size dresser and lingerie chest because of the drawers), and the bed seems to be somewhat solid. However, this is not a bed to jump up and down on, perhaps not even stand on if you are a larger person. The slats themselves just don't appear to be firmly solid. I read some of the other reviews...we had no issue putting the bed together on carpet nor using the drawers with casters on carpet. The drawers glide smoothly. Here are the issues that we had: 1) When it was time to attach the wooden slats to the bed, we discovered that some of the pre-drilled holes were missing. We thought we had put the bed together incorrectly, but no, some of the holes were just missing. 2) One of the pieces of the center frame was defective, thus we were blessed because the store had the identical piece on its display model. If the store did not have it, we would have had to wait 7-10 business days for the piece to arrive. Again, I'm happy with this bed mainly because I was able to purchase the queen size before the price doubled. However, if I had paid for this bed at its current price point, I would take it back for a refund as the quality of the materials is inferior given the current price point. June 20, 2013
Very nice bed frame, although too low for me Bought this and put the frame & headboard together and w/out a box spring, my mattress & topper sit really low (which I don't prefer), but put a box spring on there, the top of my bed sits about waist high and covers up 2/3rds of the headboard! Also, after serious consideration, and all carpet in my room, it turns out I don't like the drawers b/c they sit directly on the ground, on wheels and they're difficult to maneuver. If the frame was built so that the drawers sat on top of wood, for a secure fit and ease of use, then I'd likely deal with the lower bed height. The quality of the wood is top notch though, it's well designed and once I got the directions (a week later) it was a cinch to put together (there are a few random metal brackets that I couldn't figure out where they went w/out the direction - the rest was easy). I'd give this bed 5 stars if there was more consideration as to how high/low the top of a mattress would be (with and w/out a box spring) and use a better height - then again, that's just ME. It is beautiful though and I'm sorry to be taking it back. September 7, 2012
Disappointed with bed The bed had scratches on it on the wood and the holes did not line up when putting together. June 6, 2013
very little solid wood but some nice design features World Market's web site describes this bed as "Made of solid Lopok wood frame with MDF and veneer," but I didn't realize there would be so little solid/actual wood. As I organized the various pieces for assembly, I was extremely disappointed to discover that the vast majority of the bed, including the main part of the headboard, drawers and probably several other items which I have yet to examine more closely, are not solid wood but some kind of vinyl-/veneer-/laminate-covered material. I suppose this is the aforementioned "MDF." Ugh! I assumed the "showing parts" -- drawer fronts, headboard, footboard, side of bed -- would be all solid wood. That is not the case. In fact, I discovered the veneer (of unknown material) on the drawer-front because a tiny piece was rippled and peeling off one of the edges. I really wanted a natural wood bed, not some man-made mystery material on par with what I could find at a cheap discount store. All that being said, you can't beat the final price for this king sized Captain's/Storage bed. I shopped around various stores, and this was the least expensive, and now (after having to special order it, put a deposit on it and wait 2 weeks for it to arrive, then haul it home myself and assemble it) I know why. It's inexpensive because it's made of cheap materials and not necessarily a value for what you get, but maybe the cheapest price tag you will see if you're comparing it to "real" furniture, which is what I did before I got it home and discovered how much of it is MDF. I also have doubts about how well the drawers are going to hold up since the pieces are screwed together, not dove-tailed. The MDF material seems like it will sag easily once the large drawers are filled. On the upside, I love the roll-on-the-floor drawer design, the number of drawers (4) and the size of the drawers, and that's much of what sold me on the piece. Most storage beds I've seen do not offer nearly as much storage space. I am undecided as to whether I will keep it. The bed's not even fully assembled, and I already significantly regret the purchase. While it is returnable, that doesn't make up for the lost time and effort of loading it in and out of the car, unpacking, assembling, unassembling and re-packing it, nor does it leave me with the type of bed I thought I was purchasing. My advice to a potential buyer would be to find other beds made of comparable materials with the same ratio of solid to composite wood (it's probably only 25% to 30% solid wood), then compare prices and decide for yourself whether it's a good value. Just before I hit "submit" on this review, I read a little about "MDF" online and wikipedia says: "Formaldehyde resins are commonly used to bind MDF together, and testing has consistently revealed that MDF products emit urea-formaldehyde and other volatile organic compounds that pose health risks at sufficient concentrations, for at least several months after manufacture." According to the packing materials, the bed I received was manufactured 3 months prior (May 2012) to my purchase (late Aug. 2012). September 9, 2012
