Horrible frosting. The best i can tell you is don't buy it. The cake and frosting are both bad. The frosting was like a throw uppy like taste. Like if you just ate a bunch of iron. The cake was find. If you do buy it, please don't use the frosting, use something else. like butter cream and just put a little bit of red frosting or you can use cool whip. It tasted really good with cool whip. Do you like for your frosting to taste like toxic chemicals? When I came across this item in the store, I thought it was really cute and would be a nice additional treat to a slumber party we were hosting. I usually bake everything from scratch but I figured this was a cute kit and since the frosting uses fresh ingredients, it wouldn't be as bad as canned frosting. The cupcake wrappers were adorable. I barely got six cupcakes out of the mix. When baked, they just reached the top of the cupcake liner so it isn't as if I used too much . The frosting is made with your butter, powdered sugar, and milk. You then add their mix which has coloring and flavorings . My frosting tasted like typical buttercream frosting (without the vanilla) until I added the frosting mix. I can't even begin to describe just how incredibly disgusting and vile the frosting was with the flavorings added. I know that sounds like hyperbole but it isn't. I had to eat crackers and then brush my teeth and use mouthwash to try to get the taste out of my mouth. I had a family member try it as well and she spit it back out and complained of the aftertaste. I don't know if no one bothered to taste test this stuff, if the person who approved this is used to eating chemicals for food, or if we got a bad batch but it was horrible. We couldn't detect anything "cotton candy" in the flavor. The cake part of the cupcake was OK. The problem was in the frosting and the chemical taste was so strong, there was no way to save it. I used my butter, milk, and powdered sugar in other recipes that were wonderful so I know it wasn't my ingredients. Plus, weirdly, it smelled really good. It all went in the trash. June 2, 2013
