Rated 5 out of 5 by Makes Great Coffee O.K., you do the heating of the water and the slow pouring over the coffee grounds into a device that looks beautiful and elegant and timeless because it is. I'm crediting the Chemex filters with filtering out most of coffee's bitterness and harshness. If you're not in a great hurry for your coffee and like being part of the process, this might be for you. If you'd prefer a more automated process that also makes great coffee, look into the Bonavita or the Technivorm Moccamaster. Chemex also has their Ottomatic which makes great coffee. January 10, 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by I Love it! I remember my parents having one of these donkey's years ago. A friend and fellow coffee lover re-introduced me a year or so ago. He sent an article about it is healthier than my beloved french press(es). I got one and have used it exclusively since. Then I got a three-cup version for those occasions when three was enough or we need some de-caff. The only downside is the time it takes to brew, at least 6-7 minutes of tending. It is well worth it, even when it occasionally adds to the rush in the am. Great coffee and it keeps well in the glass vessel. I've had no problem finding filters. 'bon appicoffee' March 15, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by All for the love of coffee I was a french press only coffee drinker for years and then I tasted a chemex cup and was hooked. Its a smooth and full taste without the acidic bite or the oily top that often comes with press coffee. It is great for those really dark beans that you love because you get all the flavor without that bite, a bite that is good but can be too much by your fourth cup in one day. If you don't have a burr grinder it is an investment I would recommend because the chemex begs for a freshly ground bean. It may be more hands on than the drip but its worth it. For great coffee look no further than a chemex. December 24, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Chemex, still the best cup of coffee made Follow directions. There is no better way to make coffee. For a perfect brew fresh water bring to just before boiling, pour small amount over grounds the first and second pour. Use no metal in the process, only glass is the best. You will never go back to using another method. I've used Chemex since 1972. The reason you're getting this is because I broke one of the two I use and need a replacement. August 5, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by A Classic coffee maker My sister inherited our Mom's 50 yr old Chemex, so I had to find my own elsewhere. Automatic coffee makers are okay, but most use plastic parts, which the hot water passes through and can affect the taste of the coffee. Not with Chemex. When I started using it my husband said..."now this is how coffee should taste!" We love it. Thanks WM!!! July 11, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by My favorite coffeemaker I got a Chemex as a wedding gift 37 years ago and still use it regularly. It requires some participation in the process, like boiling the water and adding it slowly into the filter so that there is no overflow, but the results are well worth it. July 11, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love my Chemex!!! I've used my Chemex coffee maker for years and I broke the carafe about 6 months ago. I live in Montana so finding a reasonably priced replacement has been difficult. Finding that WM sold Chemex makers was great! I've read some of the other comments and the filters are found in many department stores, cookware stores, or online. Oddly enough I had no problem finding the filters in Montana but the replacement carafes were a little more difficult to track down. January 4, 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smoothest coffee experience This coffee maker brews the smoothest cup of coffee ever! And NO bitterness. I also rinse and swish the carafe and filter with hot water before adding the coffee grounds for an even smoother, cleaner tasting result. For those of you who cannot find the Chemex filters, just Google "Chemex Coffee Filters" and you will have several website choices to purchase them from[...].This coffee maker isn't new, it's been around since the 1940's so I don't think that the company will stop making the filters anytime soon. I prefer to use the unbleached square filters, no chemicals to mess with the flavor of the coffee and the tall corners that stick up above the rim of the carafe make it easy to remove the grounds without making a mess or getting scalded. I even have the filters listed on my "Wish List" at amazon. I highly reccommend this brewer to anyone seeking a truly satisfying cup of coffee. October 17, 2010
