We purchased this with the matching drawer unit for a desk base. It looks as expected, very lightweight metal, but had some distressed spots (think rusty paint peeled off - nickel sized areas) on every shelf in the same spots that made it look inauthentic, and gave it a bit of a different look than how it is pictured. It is more rustic looking in person. The only negative thing about this the noise it makes when anything touches it - VERY LOUD. If books or desk-related items were moved on/off of a shelf, it would certainly be heard in the next room. I am thinking of adding wood on top of every shelf to help counter the noise. Everything else is good - hard to find this style of item to use as a stand alone shelf, or as a desk base and the price was reasonable.
