9' Apple Green Umbrella 4 5 1 1
Looks lovely, great price, but ... a couple small details were overlooked I bought two of these umbrellas, one in apple green and the other in striped chevron. They are a lovely, vibrant addition to my backyard and provide plenty of shade. I have two complaints, one minor, one a bit more problematic. To start with the minor one, and perhaps this is more a critique of the accompanying stand, it is hard to get the umbrella pole "centered" and stable in the stand - there is a screw to help secure it on one side of the hollow pole but if you tighten it down, it pushes the umbrella pole to the side and makes the umbrella wobbly in the stand. Also, if you tighten the screw to hold the umbrella securely, it makes a scratch in the wood pole. I don't mind it that much since that part of the pole is not usually visible, but it was a shame to scratch it the first time I used it. The more problematic issue is that I can't open either umbrella fully! There are 4 sets of holes at the top of the pole where you can place the pin in to raise the canopy to various levels. I can easily raise the umbrella to the second set of holes, which raises the canopy about 3/4 of the way open. With quite a bit of effort, I can raise the canopy to the third set of holes which opens the umbrella most but not all of the way. However, try as hard as I might, I cannot raise the canopy high enough to use the fourth set of holes and fully extend the umbrella. I can raise the canopy frame about a half inch higher than the 3rd set of holes and then it won't budge any further and feels tight, or like something is preventing it from raising any further. I have the same issue on both umbrellas or I would think it was just a fluke. I've only had them about a week so I'm thinking maybe over time the fabric or the frame will loosen up and I'll be able to raise the umbrella the last 10% or so? While the umbrellas are functional as is (even the one over the patio table is extended enough to not get in the way of someone standing at the table), look great, and provide plenty of shade, it is frustrating that they do not work as I would expect "out of the box."
