Sushi Night in 3 Steps
Not a trained sushi chef? Not a problem. A superb sushi night, complete with Japanese dining essentials and delightful ambiance, is easier to create than you think!
STEP 1: SET THE TABLE. Setting the scene for a fabulous sushi experience is often a matter of personal taste: for example, do you prefer ceramic sushi sets or traditional wood sushi trays? Go for your favorite, and be sure to have the following essentials on hand: sushi plates, rice bowls, dipping dishes, chopsticks and chopstick rests. Plus, prepare to serve some delicious sake in classic ceramic sake cups.
STEP 2: GET THE FOOD. Sushi-making must-haves include sushi rice (cooked according to the package directions), nori (dry roasted seaweed) and a sushi rolling mat. After the rice is cooked, spread it evenly across the "rough side" of the nori, which you'll position on top of the mat (a layer of plastic wrap between the nori and mat reduces mess). At the bottom of the nori, layer in a single row of your favorite sushi ingredients like cucumber, smoked salmon, or avocado. Then carefully use the mat to roll it all up. A wet, sharp knife will do the trick in slicing the finished roll into 6-8 tasty pieces. Make 1 or 2 more rolls to share - try mixing and matching ingredients. Grab some spicy wasabi, sushi ginger and soy sauce for dipping.
STEP 3: SET THE MOOD. Shop our assortment of affordable Asian-inspired table linens, plus elegant lanterns and candles to create a wonderful, warm ambiance. Pour some delicious sake (or try sampling a flight of 2 or 3 types for fun). Start with an easy-to make appetizer like miso soup or seaweed salad, and then bring on the sushi! Your sushi night is served in sumptuous style, budget-friendly and hassle-free.
