Our Best Fare for Oktoberfest

What better way to kick off the harvest season than with an Oktoberfest party? Host your own version of this traditional German celebration at home, complete with craft beer and delicious German fare.

A BAVARIAN TRADITION. O'zapft is! Oktoberfest begins when the mayor of Munich taps a keg and announces this German phrase meaning "It's been tapped!" Originally beginning as a celebration of the Crown Prince Ludwig's marriage to Princess Therese on October 12, 1810, Oktoberfest has evolved over time to become a celebration of Bavarian culture, food and, of course, beer! The festival is celebrated around the world, but Munich still remains the top destination for Oktoberfest festivities. During the festival, the city's fairgrounds are transformed into a lively haven of beer tents, food vendors and performers of every kind.

PROST! THE PERFECT BREW. To prepare for your Oktoberfest celebrations at home, stock up in advance on our in-store assortment of globally sourced brews, including traditional Bavarian varieties. Grab a mix of our schooner glasses, pint glasses and beer mugs (which are modeled after classic German beer steins!) and let guests sample the various brews. Be sure to have a few ice buckets and bottle openers on hand for easy access.

A FALL FEAST. Tasty beer is best accompanied by hearty fare. Traditional German cuisine like sausages (würstl), potato dumplings (knödel) and noodles (spätzle) pair wonderfully with any pint. Top sausages with authentic German mustard and sauerkraut for the ultimate in Bavarian gastronomy. Complete this autumn feast with an array of rich chocolate, marzipan and cookies from our selection of scrumptious German sweets, many of which have become popular international treats!
